How To Take a Skiing Vacation Like A DIVA
Every DIVA needs to take a fabulous ski-resort vacation at least once a year. Doesn’t matter if you don’t ski. Go!
The experience of sliding down snow covered mountainsides with the wind blowing in your face and your skis swishing on the ground is not only fun and chic but it’s good exercise too. If you want to take your man, your girlfriends and/or family on a bonding, adventurous vacation, then a few days at a ski resort is the way to go.
I’ve been an entertainment reporter for nearly 15 years and a great perk is that I often get to go on assignments in dream vacation spots for work. I’ve been all over the world and stayed at pretty much every posh celebrity enclave in the world so when I make a recommendation, I know what I’m talking about.
My favorite ski resort is Whistler in British Columbia. ( Psst! Ski Season officially opens there tomorrow, November 14th!)
The perfect time to go this year is December 3-6th because The Whistler Film Festival will be happening. Click here for details .
The first time I experienced Whistler was during the Whistler Film Festival in 2007 with DIVA Norah Lawlor (and her rock of an engagement ring that is so enormous, it requires it’s own chair on the ski-lift) along with a bunch of other cool media peeps.
Celebrities love to go there too. It was the favorite romantic ski getaway spot for Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake when they were together. Another random factoid about Whistler is that Seal proposed to Heidi Klum on a glacier there.
Don’t get me wrong, Aspen is wonderful and so is Squaw Valley, but I really love Whistler the most.
It’s not an accident that Whistler is consistently named “Best Ski Resort in North America” Plus, they are heads-and-tails above other ski-resorts when it comes to renewable energy. As if that isn’t fabulous enough… the restaurants offer organically grown and local fresh fish from sustainable sources. What I especially love is that Whistler is really green and healthy without being pedantic and annoying about it.
This year is an especially good year to go because the Winter Games will be in Vacouver and the winter competitions are actually on Whistler Mountains, so local businesses in Whistler have spent the last few years renovating and getting everything looking extra luxurious for the occasion. Plus, if you stay there during the games you don’t need an Olympic ticket to be part of the action.
Oh, and I almost forgot! You can ski or ride the famous Olympic and Paralympic Downhill courses before or after the Games and brag to your friends. Olympians will be racing down those very courses in February and March at more than 120km per hour.
You can come back here tomorrow and check out the next installment of “How to Take A Skiing Vacation at Whistler Like A DIVA.” We will cover what to pack and where to go while you are in Whistler. (Plus. spend a bonus day in Vancouver).

I have also been once to a skiing vacation in Beijing. What I think that if you have not experienced a skiing vacation till now then you are really missing something very adventurous.
